Update
The Cellar has opened and is offering customers of The Sportsman's Eye a new way to take advantage of the dynamic inventory. In order to make room for new artwork and decoys, The Sportsman's Eye's Cellar offers some of the existing inventory at a discount. The Cellar also has available collectibles and small antiques, not previously offered by The Sportsman's Eye. We will be adding this inventory daily, so make certain you visit The Cellar.
We are currently exploring the possibilities of helping some collectors unload old collections. We are interested in one carver in particular, Chester B. deGavre. We presently have one pair of deGavre carvings left, and are hoping to acquire more.
S.E. Spectacular Sale
Twenty decoys go on sale as of today, March 27th. Included in these decoys is a New England Goose, largely original paint. A classic New Jersey Brant by Roy Maxwell. A Stratford, Connecticut female Old Squaw, hollow, from the "personal rig of Charles E. SHANG Wheeler probably made by Ben Holmes." The Luther Nickerson is a Drake Goldeneye, hunted hard; weathered and worn surface, but original remaining paint. Form is really quite great. Unknown carver hooded Merganser Drake - complex series of weights; original paint, circa 1940, tack eye, small carrying size. Drake canvasback with origins either Illinois River or Delaware River - bird has beautiful form, fascinating pattern of craquelature paint. There is a contemporary bird by Roger Mitchell - it truly represents what Mitchell can do. His own patterns, own concept, extremely fine form. Another Drake Goldeneye on the stand - probably MA - certainly made by a gunner for personal use. Hayes Factory Mallard - original paint, nice form, a collector will recognize the quality of this decoy. These are difficult to find. We will be adding additional information as time goes on. Please feel free to call with any questions or more details and/or photos.
